1. Expansion in 2020

The Club was founded by Mr J Dawson and Mr D Rigg in 1977 with the one team of U12s boys entered into the local league at that time. At that time it was called Gomersal Boys Juniors F.C. and ran out of the Wheatsheaf Inn in Little Gomersal.

John’s aim was to provide facilities along with a safe environment for children of the whole community to grow through participation in the sport of football.
This is exactly what the Committee of 20 volunteers and over 30 FA qualified coaches are still achieving today.

As the club grew it attracted more and more youngsters, including girls, so in 2005 the name was changed to Gomersal & Cleckheaton F.C. There were 12 teams with over 200 players participating during that year.

We have continued to flourish and grow and now have over 300 boys and girls ranging from under 6s through to under 18s playing in 24 teams spread over twelve age groups.

For the start of the 2020/2021 season Gomersal & Cleckheaton FC formed an Open Age section, to join the mini-soccer and youth teams, providing a development pathway from Gummy Tots through to adult football.

The Open Age section was created through mergers with Hunsworth FC and Hartshead AFC, providing two teams playing Saturday afternoon football and one team playing Sunday morning football.
