Disability Coaches at the Grassroots Football Awards

Dan Porritt

Good Luck to Our Disability Coaches at the Grassroots Football Awards!

It’s an absolute honour to be shortlisted for this award
- Coach Andrew

This Friday, GCFC Disability Coaches Andrew, Mick and Jimmy will proudly represent Gomersal & Cleckheaton FC at the prestigious Grassroots Football Awards.

The awards are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the people who make grassroots football so special — recognising those who give their time, passion and energy to make a positive difference to players, families and communities across the county.

Andrew, Mick and Jimmy have been shortlisted in recognition of their incredible work with the club’s disability section, which has gone from strength to strength since its introduction.

Speaking ahead of the awards, Andrew said:
“It’s an absolute honour to be shortlisted for this award. Disability football was something I initially wanted to do simply for fun, and I honestly had no idea just how much it would grow. This has been the most fun I’ve ever had coaching, and I’m incredibly lucky to have Mick & Jimmy alongside me, sharing this journey every step of the way.

The young player mentors, families and, most importantly, the players have been absolutely amazing. They’ve given us a new passion and a real drive to make football accessible to everyone, regardless of ability.

Whatever happens with the award, I’m already incredibly proud of what we’ve created together. Here’s to continuing the journey and showing that football really is for everyone.”

The growth of our disability section at GCFC is a fantastic achievement, and the dedication of our coaches, players, families and young mentors has created something truly special at GCFC.

From everyone at the club — good luck Andrew, Mick and Jimmy, and thank you for everything you do.

Football really is for everyone!
