Behind every successful grassroots football club is a team of dedicated volunteers working tirelessly behind the scenes, and Nathan Page is one of the best in the business.

Nathan became involved with the club when the open-age team merged from Hartshead to Gomersal & Cleckheaton. Wanting to see the club grow and succeed, volunteering was a natural step for him.

Since then, he has played an important role in helping the club develop both on and off the pitch.

Life as Club Secretary
Nathan's week is certainly a busy one. His role includes:

• Ensuring every team has a suitable facility to play at.
• Liaising with grounds staff to make sure pitches are marked and maintained.
• Gathering agenda items and helping organise committee meetings.
• Supporting the day-to-day running of the club behind the scenes.

It may not always be the most visible role, but it's one that helps keep everything running smoothly for players, coaches and volunteers alike.

Watching the Club Grow
When asked what he enjoys most about being part of the club, Nathan highlighted two things: seeing the club continue to grow and spending time with everyone on matchdays.

For him, the most rewarding aspect of grassroots football is simple:

"Seeing the kids enjoy football on a weekly basis."

It's a reminder of exactly why so many people give up their time to volunteer.

Proud Moments
Nathan has witnessed some fantastic milestones during his time with the club, but a couple stand out in particular.

Being involved in the EBCSA project and seeing the club move from playing on a grass pitch to having access to a fantastic 3G facility is something he's especially proud of.

On a personal level, the club's League Cup victory during the 2024/25 season remains one of his favourite football memories and a real highlight of his time at the club.

The Importance of Volunteers
If there's one message Nathan would like people to take away, it's the importance of volunteers.

"Without volunteers there would be no grassroots football clubs, they are the backbone of the club."

One of the biggest challenges he sees is attracting new volunteers as the club continues to expand.

His message to anyone thinking about getting involved?

"Come along and give it a try, you might be surprised with the enjoyment you get from it."
