Wednesday 21st August.
Huddersfield Amateurs visited East Bierley for our midweek fixture in the West Yorkshire Premier League.
Looking to build on the 5-0 victory over Horsforth, Gomersal started the game brightly. Set up in the 4-2-3-1 formation with 2 changes from the victory over Horsforth. Ben Smith came in on the right wing to replace Tom Sugden who was unavailable and Lee Bennett made his Gomersal league debut starting in centre midfield for Stuart McCallum.
The first 10 minutes of the game Gomersal dominated the early possession and the football was played predominantly in the Huddersfield Ams half. On the 11th minute Gomersal cracked open the Huddersfield defence, Jonny Irving capitalised in the box and fired the ball in to the bottom corner. 1-0.
Huddersfield Ams sat in and looked like they were here to play counter attacking football. The left winger looked dangerous with his pace causing right back Ethan Walshaw a few problems. Still dominating possession and creating chances Gomersal looked to be cruising, however unable to convert any of the chances they were getting Huddersfield equalised on the 22nd minute. Up until half time the game carried on in the same vein.
After half time Gomersal set off on the front foot once again, current Top goalscorer Adam Simpson fired us back into the lead on the 47th minute. 2-1.
Still creating plenty of chances and having numerous corners Gomersal were being frustrated that we could not find the back of the net to take the game away from Huddersfield Ams. With the scoreline at 2-1 Huddersfield always felt like they were still in the game.
Surprisingly, the weather was dropping dark rather quickly for the last 20 minutes, and on the 77th minute Huddersfield counter attacked with one long ball down their left hand side in which a lapse of concentration and indecisiveness cost Gomersal. 2-2.
Pushing hard towards the final whistle Gomersal had chances cleared off the line, unfortunately it wasn't to be, the game finished in a 2-2 draw and the points shared.
