3. The Former Hunsworth Football Club

Hunsworth FC was founded in 1986 by a group of local lads who frequented the Savile Arms pub in the village of Hunsworth, near to Cleckheaton. They were originally called Savile Arms FC and joined the Heavy Woollen Sunday League.

In 1988 those players wanted to play at an even better standard of football and joined the West Riding County Amateur League in Division 3 as Savile Arms, playing on Saturday afternoons.

In 1992 the club changed its name to Hunsworth FC, continuing in the WRCAFL on Saturdays and the HWSL on Sundays.

The club was affiliated to the West Riding County FA, gained FA Charter Standard in 2013 and maintained that status ever since.

Saturday Team:

  • Promoted to Division 2 in 1999/2000 season
  • Promoted to Division 1 in 2002/2003 season
  • Promoted to Premier Division in 2010/2011 season
  • Won Division 1 title in 2013/2014 season *
  • Promoted to Premier Division in 2014/2015
  • Entered Division 2 of West Yorkshire Association League for 2018/2019 season
(*denied promotion to Premier due to ground not being Step 7)

Between 2012 and 2015 the club also entered a Reserves side in the WRCAFL Division 3, but the team had to be disbanded after 3 seasons due to lack of players.

Sunday Team:
This team gained 3 promotions between 1992 and 2012. The team was disbanded in 2012 and reformed in 2017, joining the Bradford Sunday Alliance Football League in Division 3.

In 2015 the club partnered with Birkenshaw Amateur Rugby League club and founded the East Bierley Community Sports Association who obtained a 125 year lease on the sports fields at East Bierley. A brand new changing room facility was officially opened in May 2017.

In 2020 the club merged with Gomersal & Cleckheaton FC to form their Open Age section. The local football history is still being made as part of Gomersal & Cleckheaton FC.
